Louis Truant passed away in 1970 after working at the Dome Mine for 37 years, and just one year short of retirement. His legacy of service and talent lives on.
This was a man who was not a veteran, but as an Associate Member took the mission of the Royal Canadian Legion as his personal mission. He promoted remembrance and acted in the service of Canada and his community.

About 1947, he constructed a more permanent Cenotaph of stones topped with a stone cross at the front of the Legion Hall on Bruce Avenue. This was used for over 30 years until the present Cenotaph was built into the outside wall of the Legion building.
